According to the 25th letter of the Ministry of Ecology and Environmental Protection and Climate Change, it is planned to celebrate "Saiga Day" in our Republic on May 5 of this year.
On this day, a scientific seminar was held by the professors and teachers of the Department of "Biology, Ecology and Medicinal Plants" of the Faculty of Biotechnology of the SamSUVMLB University on the topic "Let's Save the Saiga".
This species is native to the Ustyurt Plain, the Eastern and Southern Aral Sea, and the dry areas of the Aral Sea. Previously, it was found in the Northern Kyzylkum, Syrdarya steppes, including the flat part of the Fergana Valley. Outside Uzbekistan, it is distributed in Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Mongolia. Its number has decreased by 99.5% since the 1990s, when it was very numerous in the past.
